2.27.04 - The league-leading Caguas Criollas beat the Corozal Pinkin, 3-0. The scores of the match were 25-19, 26-24, & 25-18. Corozal gave it a good shot, playing without Cassie Busse, but at the end their mistakes were the difference in a game that was closer than what the scoreboard indicates. Corozal has three matches left and is still in the hunt for making the playoffs.  summary & stats   message board

1.16.2003 - Corozal's visit to Mayaguez ended with a tough, 3-2 loss to the Indias. The scores were 26-24, 16-25, 25-20, 23-25, and 12-15. Corozal entered the fourth game with a 2 to 1 lead, but the Indias regrouped and took games 4 and 5 to earn their fourth victory of the season. Corozal played hard without Benishe Roberts is in Texas attending her Grandfather's funeral on Friday 17th, and for a while they looked like they were on their way victory. In game 5 they held a 8-4 edge, but offensive serve by the Indias caused problems to the Pinkin who lost the lead and the match.
 

For Corozal, Jennifer Kessy led the scoring with 24 points (22 kills, 2 blocks), and Vilmarie Mojica contributed with 12 points (10 kills, 1 block, and 1 ace)  The highest scorer for the Indias was Nancy Metcalf with 29 points. Pinkin's first loss
Carolina beats Corozal, 3-1
 

1.13.2003 - The Carolina Gigantes handed the Corozal Pinkin their first loss of the season after beating them 3-1. The scores were 27-25, 25-17, 22-25, and 25-20. Corozal played from behind from most of the games mostly in part because of problems with the flow of the offense. They almost won the first game after being down 24-22, but lost 27-25. In the second game, the Gigantes dominated from the outset, but in the third, Corozal managed a comeback and won 25-22. In the last game, Carolina jumped to an early 5 point advantaged that the Pinkin could not overcome.

For Corozal, Jennifer Kessy led the scoring with 21 points (19 kills, 1 block, 1 ace), Benishe Roberts had 15 points (14 kills, 1 block)  The highest scorer for the Gigantes was Kristee Porter with 27 points. Pinkin win again in Ponce
 

1.11.2003 - The Corozal Pinkin got their second win beating the Ponce Leonas in 4 games after losing the first. The scores were 22-25, 25-21, 25-21 and 25-19

The Pinkin looked out of synch earily in the match, but an adjusment by coach "Kike" Ortíz worked perfectly and got the team rolling. He brought in Jessenia Resto to play for setter Soleil Thon (who's battling the flu) and move Vilmarie Mojica back to her setter position. It worked perfectly as it sparked the team's offense mainly by the excellent performance of Jessenia who finished with 14 points.

For Corozal, Jennifer Kessy led the scoring with 20 points (18 kills, 2 blocks ), Benishe Roberts had 17 points (11 kills, 5 blocks and 1 ace) and Jessenia Resto 14, (11 kills, 2 blocks and 1 ace). The highest scorer for the Ponce Leonas was Sherisa Livingston with 22 points. Season opener
Corozal beats Moca in 5 games, earns first victory of 2003
 

1.9.2003 - The Corozal Pinkin opened their 2003 season with a hard-fought victory on the road as they beat the Moca Rebeldes in 5 games, 25-18, 16-25, 25-22, 20-25 and 15-11.

The Pinkin started off strongly winning the first game, but struggled in the second when their passing became erratic.Corozal then won game three coming from behind, but the Rebeldes forced game five with a 25-20 decision on game 4. The fifth game saw the lead change hands often early in the game, but Corozal built a 11-8 lead, and then won 15-11.

For Corozal, Jennifer Kessy led the scoring with 26 points (20 kills, 3 blocks and 3 aces) followed by Benishe Roberts with 23 points (18 kills, 4 blocks and 1 ace). The highest scorer for the Moca Rebeldes was Sarah Butler with 23 points. Corozal's next match is Saturday, January 11th when the visit the Ponce Leonas. more info (spanish) / Photos / Stats

12.29.02 - The Corozal Pinkin finished second place in the FPV Pre-Season Tournament after falling to the Bayamón Vaqueras in the finals, 25-22, 28-30, and 15-11. Jennifer Kessy and Benishe Roberts were the best scorers of the match with 9 points each. It Corozal's third match of the day, after beating the Carolina Gigantes, 25-18, 25-27, and 16-14, and the Toa Baja Llaneras, 25-23, 21-25, and 9-15. FPV Pre-season Tournament
Corozal beats Mayaguez; Advances to next round
        

 

12.28.02 - The Corozal Pinkin advanced to the next round of the FPV Pre-season Tournament by besting the Mayaguez Indias, 25-18 and 25-20. Corozal showed good blocking and effective attacks throughtout the match, and got 7 points from Jennifer Kessy and Carol Rodríguez, and 5 from Benishe Roberts. Start of 2003 draws near
Corozal will participate in FPV pre-season tournament        

 

12.15.02 - The Corozal Pinkin will take place in the FPV (Puerto Rican Volleyball Federation) Women's Volleyball Pre-season Tournament to be held in the city of Caguas on December 28th-29th. This two-day event is a preview for the regular season that opens on January 8th, 2003.

In another pre-season anouncement, the Pinkin will celebrate their now traditional uniform presentation/press conference for the 2003 season on January 4th, 2003 at the EL TRAPICHE restaurant at Corozal's Centro Historico Turístico del Cibuco. The activities will start at 4:00 pm.

12.5.2002 - Now that both of Corozal's imported players have arrived, the practice sessions are becoming more intense as the season draws near and the players look forward to the start of competition. Benishe Roberts practiced Thursday for the first time and inmediately made her presence felt in the court. The duo of Roberts and Jennifer Kessy will give a big push to the Pinkin's offense, and will definitely impress quite a few when the season starts. Head coach "Quique" Ruíz, Vilmarie Mojica and Carol Rodríguez will rejoin the team's practices when they return from El Salvador early next week. more photos from practice

12.4.2002 - Jennifer Kessy and Benishe Roberts, Corozal's two imported players will be joining the team this week in preparation for the 2003 season which starts on January 9th. Actually, Kessy has been in Puerto Rico since Saturday November 30th, and has already joined the team on Tuesday's practice session.

Roberts, the United States Professional Volleyball League's MVP will arrive on Wednesday December 4th. Both players are really excited about the oppoortunity to play here in Puerto Rico with a team with great volleyball tradition like Corozal. Only two players, Vilmarie Mojica, and Carol Rodríguez have yet to join the team because of their participation with Puerto Rico's National Team, but will report to practice next week, when they return from the Central American Games taking place in El Salvador.

USPV's  MVP Benishe Roberts joins the Corozal Pinkin            

 

11.27.02 - Benishe Roberts, the MVP of the USPV 2002 Season will play for the Corozal Pinkin in the upcoming 2003 season. Benishe, a 6'2 offensive middle blocker, had an outstanding season with the St. Louis Quest of the USPV in which she finished first in the league on blocks, second on total points scored and third in kills. She had excellent numbers in Aces (sixth place overall) and digs (seventh place overall). While playing in  College, Benishe was part of the 1998 Long Beach State Championship Team that won the NCAA Division 1 title undefeated. She has also played with the USA National Team. In her high-school years, Benishe also excelled in Basketball and Track, where she participated in the high jump competition. Welcome to Corozal, Benishe!

11.21.2002 - Last Wednesday we had a chance to tour the Carmen Z. Figueroa Gym to look at the progress of the renovations being made. Work on the roof has been completed in a 75%. The new seating section is been assembled and the new court should be arriving at the beginning of December. A new sound system, and new equipment for the bathrooms is been added. Also, the gym will be painted inside and out. The work is expected to be complete by the end of December.

11.16.2002 - Jennifer Kessy, a 6'0 outside hitter from USC and formerly the Chicago Thunder of the USPV will join the Corozal Pinkin for 2003 season. Kessy will be one of the two foreign players that Corozal will have for next season. She is an excelent offensive weapon with outstanding defensive skills. During her career, Jennifer was a three-time all-conference selection ('95-'97), an All-Pac-10 Freshman selection, and a NCAA District 8/All West Team in 1997. She's eight in career kills at USC with 1245, first in kills per game with 4.02, seventh in career attacks, and sixth in digs. Jennifer also plays beach volleyball in the AVP tour. Welcome to our team, Jennifer!

10.16.02 - Outside hitter Natalia Torres was the first pick of the Corozal Pinkin in the players' draft for the upcoming 2003 season. The draft, held at the Puerto Rican Volleyball Federation facilities in Río Piedras, featured players not reserved by their previous teams and up-and-coming talented youngsters. Corozal also pick the Setter Soleil Thon and the youngster Yarimar Rosas. More...

A success the first practice session/try-out for the team
 
10.7.02 - The first practice session for the 2003 Pinkin, which was held in a try-out format, was a big success with around 35 players showing up to showcase their skills and hope to earn a spot in the team. The session lasted about to hours and was directed by the team's new coach, Enrique, "Kike" Ruíz. In attendance were also last year's players, Vilmarie Mojica, Carol Rodríguez, Jessenia Resto, and Rayma Robles. The training session continue on Friday.

2003 Season
Women's League players draft set for October 16th, 2002
 
The players' draft for the 2003 season will be held on October 16th, 2002 at 11:00 in the facilities of the Puerto Rican Volleyball Federation (FPV, in Spanish). The Pinkin have the second pick of the draft and will be looking to add quality players to the team. Visit Pinkin.com regularly for more news regarding the draft.
